My BirdsOver the years I have honed my own unique process and style of carving and coloring song birds. The result is a rustic artistic rendering mounted on beautiful found-wood from around the world.
My ProcessI started whittling birds more than 30 years ago. Small songbirds are my favorites. I love researching the birds and seeing them in the wild on my travels. Plus, songbirds are the perfect size for carving in my hand.
My Story"Nick Scheuer has carved Door County birds for my art gallery for 35 years. His fine carving techniques can be seen in a variety of birds like Chickadee, Goldfinch, Blue Jay, American Robin, Warblers, Eastern Bluebird, Nuthatch, and many others. He also mounts birds in a variety of ways.
Nick's careful use of oil-base paints in hand coloring show his attention to realistic markings and detail. He is a very capable artist. His consideration in mounting and proportion prove his abilities as a Master Craftsman.
Nick's bird carvings can be viewed at Weathergate Gallery, open June, July, and August (open daily except Sunday) in Fish Creek, Wisconsin.”

"I grew up with a marsh and pond for a backyard, and I spent countless hours in the woods, marsh, and fields. I feel somewhat qualified in knowing what a bird should look like.
I have been collecting decoys and folk art for over 40 years, and Nick's songbirds for about 35 years.
The beauty of Nick's work speaks for itself. I like the fact that his style has never changed. Nick Scheuer's songbirds are readily identifiable without a trained eye. He has a rare talent of carving a piece of wood to look like the songbird he’s trying to portray without losing the beauty of a woodcarving. Some try to capture every feather with wood burning; Nick does it with a knife and paint. Even the eyes are wood carved.
An added plus is that Nick is a great guy."

"Nick's lovely bird carvings bring the outdoors inside our Longbranch Gallery. We've enjoyed showing and selling Nick’s work for many years, and we always look forward to seeing what species shows up next.
Exacting carving and attractive painting bring his bird carvings to life. The only problem is that Nick’s birds don’t seem to stay long, they quickly fly out the door with some very happy customers."
